| description |
|
| This incredibly rare specimen shows two sets of trace fossils. The first being stunning fossilized ripple marks and the other is many Rhynchosaurus footprints. This locality has long since gone, however, this famous Rhynchosaurus was a mammal like reptile who as a group were short lived but very abundant. They were rather pig-like creatures using their tusks to root about for food, these reptiles were herbivores. The fossil itself shows the creature/s running around over the mud flats in all directions, probably looking for food ? The fossilized ripple marks left either by the sea or estuary tide complete the story of a snapshot in time. A tremendous display piece and aquisition for the collector of very rare fossils. Approximately 215 million years old. Please note this fossil is from an old collection. |
