  The spines of this echinoid are club like in shape and are known in folklore as Lapis Judaicus or "Jews Stones". These were extensively used as medicines and were either crushed up or sucked for ailments of the urinary system. On the island of Malta these echinoid spines are referred to as St Paul's stick. This particular specimen comes from an old collection and would make a great conversational piece!!
