Name |
Ray Dermal Dentitcle (Rare)
ref |
SHARK654 |
Fossils from the Red Crag are highly collectable and very sought after, especially nowadays as all the exposures are basically gone due to over-mining and erosion. This is a ray dermal denticle which has the same embryological origin as the teeth in the ray's mouth. These teeth have simply migrated to the skin. A very rare and very interesting specimen. One for the serious collector. |

This specimen, from the Cretaceous Rocks of Rock A Nore, is a fabulous example of a shark's fin spine, probably a hybodant. The fin spine is a large example and is just missing the very tip of the front and back but this certainly should not detract from this wonderful specimen. The fin spine also has preserved and carefully prepped out its ' barbs'. Collected late last century. |

This really nice slither of crinoidal limestone exhibits a dozen or so shark denticles and a partial tooth? A really interesting fossil for the collector5 of rare Carboniferous shark material. This famous quarry has been overgrown for decades now, so any collecting is heavily restricted. This specimen is from the late Professor GORDON WALKDEN collection. Approximately 340 million years old and was collected in 1962. Fossils Direct is a premium collectors website. |
