Click to enlarge   Name Palaeospondylus gunni (Rare Double)
  ref 6395a
This rare double is approximately 390 million years old and was unearthed in 1982. These small fish had an eel-like body and were first discovered in Scotland in 1890. This particular specimen was exhibited in a Glasgow university until it became surplus to their requirements, it then resided in the late GORDON WALKDEN collection ever since. Magnificent details under magnification. One for the discerning collector.

Click to enlarge   Name Microbrachius dickis (Male Antiarch V Rare)
  ref FISH552
Microbrachius means "little arms" and refers to the genital limbs that locked male and female fish together when mating. This specimen is of a male due to its "L" shaped claspers which were used to hold the female whilst mating. The male of this species is incredibly rare and is probably one of the first fossil records of mating. A very interesting, extremely well preserved ancient Antiarch.

These mysterious fish fossils could be larval lung fish, however, the debate still goes on!! This fossil is from the classic Achanarras flagstones. These specimens are now becoming more scarce therefore becoming more sought after. Approximately 385 million years old. A great conversation piece.
