This incredibly rare fish head is preserved both sides and is around 50 million years old. Both eye sockets are preserved, however the main one is three dimensional and all sclerotic rings are present, which protects the eyeball of the fish. Verfy few of these heads have been discovered and that includes in museums collections too .This fish, on the reverse side, has part of its backbone preserved and lovely head plates. The specimen itself was discovered in 1972 and has resided in the late GORDON WALKDEN collection. One for the discerning collector of rare English fossil fishes. |
