Click to enlarge   Name Isle of Wight Amber (Rare)
  ref 2058
This genuine Amber from the clays of Brighstone Bay is excessively rare, with reports from institutions documenting around 40 specimens only recorded from the Isle of Wight. It too, is the oldest amber in the world, approximately 110 million years old. The colour when held up to the light is a deep rich honey colour. This amber is reported to come from the conifer (Brachyphllum)(Araucariaceae). The amber piece was found in 1971 after rough seas battered the cliffs. It has resided ever since in the late GORDON WALKDEN collection. An important piece for the collector. Amber is fossilised tree resin which exudes after the tree has been damaged. Fossils Direct is a premium collectors website.
