Fossils Direct pride ourselves on bringing not just the most aesthetic pieces to the marketplace, but the incredibly rare. This specimen was collected many years ago and named after the famous collector, Charles Lapworth which subsequently resulted in the Lapworth Museum being named after him. This specimen has the trace fossils of what is believed to be annelid worms. Very little information can be found on google regarding these creatures. Approximately 437 million years old. |

Name |
Crustacean trackway (Wonderful detail)
ref |
SP1783 |
This wonderfully preserved trackway was made by a small crustacean crawling through a muddy sea floor or swamp some 325 million years ago. It was studied by the ate John Cooper whilst he worked in the NHM London, and is an ex Manchester Museum specimen which was exchanged in the early 1970's. Clear trackways are a mine of information and can tell us a lot about the creatures and the environment at that time. One for the discerning collector, a unique trace fossil. Fossils Direct is a premium collectors website. |

As can be seen from the images, you can see why this is referred to as "Beetroot Stone". These ancient Stromatolites are structures formed in shallow water by organisms called "cyanobacteria". This specimen has been cut and polished to reveal the beautiful structure within the stone. A classic stromatolite! |
