description |
|
From a worn pebble comes this juvenile ichthyosaur skull. The skull has been acid prepared from its limestone surround. The specimen has got a complete lower jaw, however, it does seem that this poor baby ichthyosaur lost the top of its skull either in predation or in fossilisation. There are two eye sockets preserved and part of the sclerotic ring, only half of the eyes have been preserved. Also within the pebble are numerous small vertebrae and other interesting bones. An extremely rare specimen from this world famous location. Approximately 200 million years old. |
