description |
|
Only very rarely does an old ex museum collection piece come up for sale on the open market. This giant Brachiopod was discovered circa 1923 from the famous Blue John stone locality. It was donated to the university of Birmingham and used as a teaching specimen for over half a century, before it became surplus to their needs and traded with other specimens of more academic use to the. It's one of the finest and rarest brachiopod shells to be found at this world famous carboniferous locality. Collecting at this locality has been strictly forbidden for over fifty years now. One for the serious and discerning collector. The specimen has also been completely re-prepared. Approximately 345 million years old. Fossils Direct is a premium collectors website. |
