description |
|
This wonderful spiny clam shell has taken many hours to prepare to this standard. This is by far one of the finest clam shells we have offered for sale on Fossils Direct. On the same surface as the clam there is also a gastropod shell (Obornella granulata), and a belemnite guard (Belmnopsis cf. berrichi). This specimen was discovered in 1988 from a temporary exposure and remained unprepared until recently. After one week's collecting at this exposure by the late John Huxtable, it was backfilled. John wrote many scientific papers on the oolite and liassic fossils. The matrix has a level base for upright display. One for the discerning collector of rare and aesthetic English fossils. Prepared by Andy Cowap. Approximately 172 million years old.
