description |
|
This really nice and dramatic example is approximately 320 million years old. The detail on each leaf (pimule) is fantastic, especially under magnification. This colliery was the biggest in Kent. This specimen, according to the coal seam was discovered 1,476ft below the surface. This fine specimen was found in 1959 and was used as a display item in the colliery exhibit area. The colliery closed in 1989. The fossil resided in the late GORDON WALKDEN collection. |
