description |
|
An exceptionally rare fossil from the oolite of southern Britain, a wonderfully preserved fir cone. The cone has been fully prepared by Andy Cowap and has taken many painstaking hours to get to this state. The fir cone even has the stalk which attaches it to the branch preserved. Only a few of these cones have ever been discovered, fi/pine cones from the UK are excessively rare and this one is sublime and a real collectors piece. Approximately 171 million years old. A rel fir cone as seen in the main picture is a lovely accompaniment with the fossil and how they haven't changed in all those millions of years !! |
