This is one of the rarest and finest fossils that Fossils Direct have offered for sale! There have been, to our knowledge, around a dozen complete specimens of Apiocrinites ever discovered from the Bradford Clay and all of those are in museums worldwide. This magnificent, complete crinoid including its HOLDFAST was discovered during the canal side bridge excavation in 1974 and has remained in the same collection ever since. Final preparation by Andy Cowap. Attached to the calyx is a bivalve shell (Oxytoma?)and inside the calyx is filled with shell fragments. To a serious crinoid collector this complete Apiocrinites is the 'Holy Grail' as we believe there isn't one in private hands apart from this one now in Andy's private collection. What more can we say about this completely one off stunning fossil, which is approximately 160 million years old. |
