description |
|
A stunning piece of highly pyritized Pentacrinites from the area which Mary Anning used to patrol some 200 years ago. The crinoid itself has its mouth preserved, this very rare feature only happens when the leaves are swept back by the water currents and then rapidly buried. The depth of the crinoid and detail on the leaf and stems is magnificent. Only very rarely do pieces of such quality reach the open market for sale. The fossil itself has had many hours of preparation spent on it. It was discovered after a severe storm hit the south coast during the winter of 1995 bringing this superp fossil down the cliffs in a mudslide. Approximately 200 million years old. |
