description |
|
This magnificent upper liassic ammonite has been prepared by Andy Cowap and has taken many painstaking hours. Phylloceras of this size and quality from this famous locality are exceptionally rare. This truly wonderful specimen was discovered in 1997 and remained unprepared until now. The ammonite has an immaculate centre and wonderful striking sutures which are incredibly aesthetic. Usually when these quality Phylloceras are discovered from here, they are matrix free, however, this specimen was entombed in rock with just one small edge showing. The matrix has a level base for upright display purposes. Approximately 180 million years old. One for the collector of seriously rare and beautifully preserved UK ammonites. |
