description |

This stunning examle is completely natural and has no restoration whatsoever! Scunthorpe ammonites are amongst the most sought after fossils in the world. This awesome specimen has had the outer shell ground off so it is gem smooth and finally a very high polish applied to reveal magnificent colours which include, greens, browns, creams and whites. There is a small repair to the reverse side of the ammonite. However this does not detract in any way to the aesthetics. The matrix has a cut base and attached to it is an anti slip and scratch pad for peace of mind when displaying on glass or wooden surfaces. All the Scunthorpe quarries were backfilled some 25 years ago and so these awesome ammonites are becoming extremely difficult to obtain. Many hours of painstaking work has gone into this superb display piece which is approximately 200 million years old. Super sized images of this display specimen can be seen in "Showcase fossils". |
