description
Many, many hours of preparation have gone into this stunning Oolithic ammonite by Andy Cowap. This wonderful and large individual was discovered during a temporary exposure in 1986 where it remained in the same collection unprepared until now. Immediately what is striking about this ammonite is the size of its lappets, they are huge, the largest we have ever seen on a Normanites and complete. Also the vast majority of its spines are preserved in solid calcite and it has an immaculate centre. This type of Oolithic ammonite preserved with its lappets intact are incredibly rare to obtain thesedays and virtually non-existent on the open market for sale. Serious collectors will appreciate how rare this superb ammonite really is and the skill involved in preparing such a delicate specimen. A real one off!! Approximately 170 million years old.
