description |
|
This stunning example was collected in 1966 and is approximately 460 million years old. Carpoids are a member of an extinct group of unusual echinoids, unlike other echinoderms, the carpoids display no radial symmetry, nor do they seem to have had a water-vascular system. There is fine detail throughout. There are also two other smaller carpoids (Dendrocyctis sp) and a Gastropod preserved. This special fossil resided in the late professor GORDON WALKDEN collection. Fossils of this rarity from this iconic locality, rarely come on to the open market for sale. One for the serious collector. |
