description |
|
This is one of the finest carboniferous goniatites we have ever come across from the deep coalmines of northern England. The specimen was discovered in 1920 and put on display in a Manchester college. After the college closed its doors in the early 1970's the geological section was sold off. From the seventies, this goniatite resided in the late GORDON WALKDEN collection. The goniatite itself has been preserved in pyrite and the centre is immaculate and calcified. These classic carboniferous rarities are highly sought after by collectors. Approximately 310 million years old. |
