description |
|
This fantastic ovate leaf resembles the type (Prunus). Also there is an additional lanceolate and possibly dentate leaf to the right of the main leaf. At the base of the leaf, there is evidence of an insect eating through the leaf, an amazing moment captured in time. This very fine and rare fossil was collected in 1980. Most of this leaf bed in Alum Bay is no longer accessible to collect these leaves. This superb specimen resided in the late professor GORDON WALKDEN collection. Approximately 45 million years old. Fossils Direct is a premium collectors website. |
