description |

This incredible nodule has been split to reveal this amazing and almost totally complete cuttlefish bone within. Fossil cuttlefish, this complete, from this world famous locality, are exceptionally rare. The specimen has very fine detail preserved which include muscle attachments running down both sides of the cuttlefish bone on the outside and soft tissue preservation on the extreme edge of the nodule. There has been a small repair to both halves and many hours of preparation have gone into this truly magnificent lower lias fossil which is approximately 200 million years old. This is the first and only specimen we have ever seen from here with a counterpart so every possible surface detail can be seen. One for the discerning collector of extremely rare fossils from Lyme Regis. Included are two wrought iron stands for upright display if required. |
