description
Any dinosaur material from this world iconic fossil locality is extremely scarce. This magnificent specimen was discovered in 1991 and developed from a small pebble using acetic acid. The specimen exhibits one and a half tail vertebrae belonging to a juvenile Scelidosaurus. This quadrupedal plant eating dinosaur grew up to 4 meters in length and its body was covered in dermal scutes just under its skin, acting as armour. Recent cladistic analyses place Scelidosaurus as a member of the Thyreophora, and the sister group to Ankylosaurus (armoured dinosaurs) and stegosaurus (plated dinosaurs). Serious collectors of extremely rare English dinosaur material will appreciate just how sought after Lyme Regis dinosaur specimens are. Approximately 200 million years old. This magnificent fossil resided in the late GORDON WALKDEN collection.
