This very rare fish from the Purbeck formation, Durlston Bay is part of the Jurassic World Heritage site and is one of the most important early cretaceous fossil sites in the world. The animals here lived in a swampy, lagoonal ecosystem approximately 142 million years ago. The fossil fish lies in an elongated piece of hard limestone and is articulated. Finding any significant fossils from tis locality nowadays is extremely rare. This specimen was discovered in 1972 and has resided in t6he late GORDON WALKDEN collection ever since. One for ther collector of rare English fossil fish. |
