description
An incredibly rare Hybodant shark fin spine from a locality which is no longer accessible to the collector. The fin spine lies in a hard piece of shaped matrix and the detail and colouration is absolutely incredible. It was discovered in 1968 and has resided in the late GORDON WALKDEN collection ever since. Fossils of this calibre and rarity don't come on to the open market very often. Hybodontiformes are an extinct subset of Elasmobranchii which existed from the late Devonian to the late Cretaceous periods. First described by OWEN in 1846. One for the serious collector of incredibly scarce English shark material. Approximately 100 million years old.
