Click to enlarge   Name Laurus (Laurel) sp. (Beautiful detail)
  ref PLAN778
There are many leaves on this piece of Tufa and all have lovely detail. The fossil is approximately 2,000 years old. Tufa is produced by the precipitation of calcite through water evaporation around springs or in caves, where they form pourous deposits and anything caught up in there will start the long process of fossilisation. A nice drawer specimen.
  Age Holocene, Flandrian, Tufa Deposits
Size Size of overall piece 91mm x 65mm
  location Salcombe Regis, Devon, UK

  price £ 19.95

These leaves are not very old in the context of fossils, maybe around 2,000 years old, however the detail is superb on each leaf. Tufa is produced by the precipitation of calcite through water evaporation around springs or in caves, where they form thin porous deposits and anything caught up in there will start the long process of fossilisation.
  Age Holocene, Flandrian, Tufa Deposits
Size Size of overall specimen 103mm x 68mm
  location Salcombe Regis, Devon, UK

  price £ 19.95

  ref PLAN772
The detail on this leaf's surface under a hand lens is magnificent. The specimen itself was discovered by Andy Cowap in 1987. This incredibly rare partial leaf may never have been described before as oolithic plant material is incredibly rare. If not collected, this fossil would have been destroyed by the sea. A real collectors piece for the enthusiastic plant collector. Approximately 125 million years old.
