Before the imperial weights and measures were introduced these sea urchins often referred to as "Pound Stones or Chudworth Buns" were used as weights due to their regular size. This specimen has been totally removed from the matrix and is an almost perfect example of this well known and highly sought after specimen. A great conversational piece!
These echinoids are referred to as "Pound stones or The Chudworth Bun" and were used as weights when trading for dairy products many years ago. Here we have two that have washed on top of each other in the ocean during fossilisation. The surrounding rock has been carefully removed to make the echinoids in full relief and have good detail throughout. A very interesting as well as an aesthetic specimen, also a good talking point!!
