An incredibly rare fossil pine cone which is approximately 171 million years old. There is excellent details on the seeds. Most of the specimen has been weathered away however, enough is left to represent a highly aesthetic and important oolithic fossil. Discovered during a temporary exposure in 2013. One for the serious collector of very rare UK fossils.
Plant fossils from the permian marl slate are rare due to most of the fauna being from the deep sea environment. This specimen is preserved on a squared block and has fantastic detail throughout and would make a great drawer specimen for the collector.
